Information they say is the greatest asset an individual can acquire, for it is very good for him/her and equips to be very relevant to others who then may be the recipients of the information already gotten.

But, do not be ignorant of the adage prominent among the Efiks of Cross River State of Nigeria, that, no individual should boast he/she is not blind until he/she dies, because, blindness is prone to attack any person living and at any time. But with adequate information on some ailments that afflicts humankind, one can be rest assured to be equipped to prevent such ailment from afflicting him. No knowledge is wasted friend.

Mental disorder is usually connected with the happenings in the mind involving the process of thinking or connected with the state of the health of the mind. Mental disorders afflict people in every part of the world and impact on the lives of their loved ones, because they care for the afflicted ones.

According to WHO, ‘One in four people will be affected by mental disorder at some point in their lives. Depression is the single largest contributor to this worldwide disability. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Although huge numbers of people are affected, mental disorders remain hidden, neglected and discriminated against’.

According to WHO, many people with mental illness refrain from seeking treatment because of the stigma associated with it. Mental illness experts say is a mental disorder which is a significant dysfunction in a person’s thinking, emotional control, and behaviour. This condition often disrupts a person’s ability to relate to others and to deal with the demands of life.

The severity of symptoms can vary in length and intensity, depending on the individual and the particular ailment and circumstances. It can affect people of any gender, age, culture, race, religion, educational and income level. Mental health disorders are not the result of personal weakness or a character flaw.

Through appropriate medical care, individuals can be treated and can lead a productive and fulfilling life. Mental health professionals can treat many mental health disorders successfully. The first crucial step then is obtain thorough assessment from a competent health professional who is experienced in treating mental conditions.
