The State Measles Immunisation Exercise, which began from Thursday 28th January 2016 is on going. It is billed to terminate on 1st February 2016.

Reliable information reaching us from the Office of the Special Adviser on Community and Primary Healthcare has it that, 'as part of efforts to ensure smooth implementation of the State Measles Immunisation Exercise the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Primary Healthcare, Dr. (Mrs.) Betta Edu, took her dynamic health team to the creeks of Bakassi for supervision and strict monitoring of 2016 measles immunization exercise' on Friday 29 January according to her media and publicity aide, Charles Ekanem.

One of the villages she visited was Ekpri Obutong under Ambai Antai Ward. She covered all the Health posts in the Local Government Area. She also visited the Riverine Areas.

She was impressed with the level of turn out for the immunization as most of the Vaccination Posts were meeting up their daily targets. The Coordinator of Primary Healthcare Community Extension Workers (CPHEW) in Bakassi, Mrs. Angela Attoe gave out neccesary data report to the Special Adviser as no challenge was recorded.

The S.A then moved door to door in the community to check if the targeted children were immunized. She was impressed by the community's response to the exercise. She encouraged parents who are yet to take their child to the vaccination post to do so with immediate effect. She further enlighthened the villagers on the effect of measles to a child. The S.A, who is fluent in communicating with the Efik language interacted with them using the dialet. She informed the community of the State Governor, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade's determination to provide quality healthcare services to them in their communities.

The exercise continues until Monday 1st February 2016 as it was billed for five days nation wide.
