It has been confirmed by a reliable source, that the National University Commission (NUC) has added a another state university to the list of 42 already existing state universities in Nigeria.
The commission after thorough inspection and standard accreditation has approved the University of Africa (UA), located at Toru-Orua, the same community where the Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson hails from.
This approval by NUC has increased the number of Nigerian state universities to become 43 in number.
According to our source, 'the approval of the university in the heart of Bayelsa followed due process of a formal presentation of the relevant gazette law, academic brief, physical master plan and the report of the advisory assessment visit by the commission'.
It is alleged that the new university, UA, is said the brain child and an initiative of the Bayelsa State Government who expects that it to run as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project.
The state government however required to only provide the enabling environment, while the financing would as a matter of necessity come from the private sector.
The NUC was said to have concurred to its establishment as provided in a valid documented letter of July 28, 2016.
We give kudos to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa , to all Bayelsians and good people of Nigeria at large for this noble achievement.
