Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKSHA) was slated to feature in the just concluded 2016 edition of the The Bridge Leadership Foundation's (TBLF) Career Day which held on Saturday 27 August at Calabar International Convention Centre, Summit Hills, Calabar.

Unfortunately, the leading law maker couldn't make it to the venue of the event, not because of the usual narrative of public office holders, which run like, 'he/she is unavoidably absent', 'he/she is having an official engagement somewhere else', etc; but, because of the unprecedentedly deplorable condition of the Calabar-Itu Federal road —the only federal road connecting Cross River to and fro the rest of the entire country!

Barr. John Gaul Lebo of the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) had to hurriedly sit in for his colleague, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke who got stuck in the impassable and neglected road infrastructure.

Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke couldn't best express his frustration when he on his social media account at 2:29PM (while the programme was on) said, 'As public officials the frequent air travels seems to detach us from the daily experiences of our citizens on our roads'.

'I think we need to begin to do more of road travels as this will bring us in tune with the reality of the pains of the people who trusted us with their mandates at all levels of government', Rt. Hon. Luke further noted.

'This post is not political but out of experience', he concluded. The Speaker must have been so frustrated!
