As if to add ' insult to injury', One Godwin Itta, who was on Monday tried at the Magistrates Court in Ikeja of Lagos has blatantly denied allegations of defiling a 10 year- old daughter of his close friend.

According to our source, the accused (Itta) who is a factory worker living at Balogun street, in Orile Agege was said to have overpowered a teenage girl in the absence of her parents and then abused her sexually, after which he absconded and left her to wallow in tears.

NHB garnered through a reliable source, that the the victim, a 10-year-old girl, was a cherished daughter of the accused friend.

Further details of the incidence, put forwards  by the prosecutor, Sgt. Rafael Donny, informs during a court proceedings that Itta committed the offence on October  22 at Jibowu Street, Orile Agege during a visit to his friend’s house.
According to Sgt. Rafael Donny,

“The accused pulled the girl on the floor and defiled her.”

The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Eyewitness testimonials have criticized the judgment of the Chief magistrate, who provided the accused a plea bargain.

Our correspondence informed that the Chief magistrate, Mrs. Badejo Okusanya, granted the accused a bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case to December 12 for mention.

We cannot but question the rationality behind such display of irrational dogmatic 'judicial precedence' which is a principle in the court of Law.

Little wonder why many critical minds have often time chorused that the entire system of " the Law is an ass".
