On Wednesday 23 November, residents of Parliamentary Village in Calabar metropolis assisted an armed robbery victim who was robbed of N250,000 by a 'one chance' gang to trap the suspects before the arrival of the police.

The obviously infuriated mob had to beat and naked the suspected armed robbers before the arrival and subsequent intervention of security agents.

Yesterday, the suspects were paraded at the Cross River State Police Command. The lady among them, Jennifer Abel, age 35, confessed that his boy friend, Augustine, sitting by her right, lurred her into the act.

While this is an unconscionable act, I am calling on all Cross Riverians to be circumspect in the type of cabs/taxis they board at any time of the day. Very importantly, we should be wary of off-colour commercial vehicles, commercial vehicles without commercial number plates, etc. Again, if your instinct disagrees with your boarding a particular cab, while your suspicion may be unfounded, I advise that you follow it. Recent police reports suggest that Cross River is the second state with high crime rate.
