The newly inaugurated governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has reassured all indigenes of the  state, of his unflinching determination to deliver the dividends of Democracy to the Edo people.

Mr Obaseki spoke last weekend to the citizens of the state that his government was elected to serve and nothing more.

He further informed that, it is irrationality and covetousness for anyone to believe that Public service is a place to emass wealth.

For him, 'when you are called to the corridors of power, you are invariably called to serve your country and not to embezzle public funds- Government job therefore, is not a place to make money!'.

If your intention is to make money, you should take a u- turn to the private sector.

Alluding to the above the new Governor expressed his gratitude to all who graced the Occasion of his swearing- in ceremony in the state and also thanked God who through the instrumentality of his parents instilled in him, some core ethical values of life.

In his words:

“I am truly blessed because I come from a very large family,   a family that is committed and dedicated to public service.

When growing up, we were told that when you decided to work in government, it meant you wanted to serve.

If you are in government, you must be in government to serve. If you want to make money, go to the private sector. Government is not where you make money.

So, I want to thank my family for those abiding values which they instilled in us."

“For all of you who have travelled far and wide, for all our friends who came to the stadium to witness our inauguration, Philip and I will like to thank you. Our doors will be wide open.

We will be reachable. We will work with you and for you. By the grace of God, after four years, Edo will not be the same again.”

In his remark, former head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd) said he has no doubt that the new Governor will deliver and take Edo state to the next level in development and progress.

He further informed the Governor to ensure that the youths are not left out of his transformation agenda as the future belongs to them.

According to him, "They are the ones we hope will one day be able to take over from you and build a better country or state than we are at the moment.

So, I must say I really appreciate your focus. You have the best idea of planning not only for today but also for the future" He said.
