The incumbently reigning Miss Bekwarra (Miss Ipem Ihihe), Miss Comfort Onyaga Ogon, has aired her mind over the 8/9 November victory at the polls of United States President-elect, Mr Donald Trump.
The beauty queen from the northern senatorial district of Cross River who recently made a grand-style exit out of the NYSC scheme (where she served in Gombe State) made her reaction known yesterday below the social media thread posted by an Atlanta-based international development consultant, Ikom, Cross River-born Princewill Odidi who preempted Trump’s victory.
Her Majesty Ogon upon the obvious victory of Mr Trump posited in hope that the African continent will be self-reliant. For the queen her continent is positioned to shoulder the burden of the world and not the other way around, where she goes hat in hand begging. In her own words, ‘I celebrate my continent as your victory gives us hope that Africa shall become self-reliant again as we begin to look inward!
‘O yeah! My continent is positioned from inception to shoulder the burden of the world and not the reverse! For too long she was displaced and God has mercifully brought restoration! God’s strength is made manifest in our weaknesses in spite of all the negative sense evidence’.
In another similar address to African youths under the aegis of Young Africans Leadership Initiative (YALI Network), an initiative of the United States government prompted by President Barack Obama, Her Majesty Ogon saw in President Obama a forerunner positioned by the divine for African youths to take over leadership of the continent. She reiterated her stance that Mr Trump’s victory is a positive thing for Africa. Hear her out:
‘A message to members of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) network
Congratulations young African leaders! The mantle of leadership has been handed over to us by President Barack Obama; for God gave us a forerunner who prepared us for such a time as this when our passion for changing our continent by ourselves has risen beyond any point in history. I fear not about the future of YALI because Trump’s victory is a trophy for my continent.
‘Aren’t we better, United and well equipped than most old clueless politicians who are steering the boat of leadership in our countries? The time has come for us to take over the seat of LEADERSHIP and pilot our continent to her place of bearing the burden of the rest of the world for we have long been displaced to a place of perpetual dependency. We refuse to cruise the boat because we are pilots and we fly with our wings as leaders who are reader to restore our continent to her place of self reliance! I am YALI and you are YALI!
‘YALI is not about traveling to the United States of America, but about equipping Africans to make Africa better than the United States for the later shall always be better than the former. Let make Americans beg to come to Africa! Yes we can.’, she concluded.
Trump’s victory at the polls may really be a ‘trophy for Africa’. Let’s see.
