Gov Ayade addressing appointees at Obudu Retreat recently with Speaker Lebo (3rd R), Barr. Agbor (1st R), Dep. Gov. (2nd L)
Efio-Ita Nyok|18 December 2016
Last week, precisely on Wednesday 14 December the Secretary to the Government of Cross River State, Barr. Tina Banku Agbor made two very important press releases that we in NegroidHaven consider very apposite to Cross Riverians. They are thus considered very important because it borders on local governments elections.
You know there has been controversies as to whether Cross River will have LG elections. Besides, to compound the issue the federal government has ruled that if LG elections are not held in any of the 36 states, the concerned states should not be entitled to monthly allocations for the third tier of government.
Secondly, His Excellency Mr Ben Ayade the Executive Governor of Cross River will be arriving the state for the first time since the historic Supreme Court of Nigeria judgment in the now laid to rest suit, Joe Agi SAN Vs CRS PDP on Monday 19th December. A press release has it that all appointees of the state government numbering over 2,000 individuals, politicians, leaders of thoughts, etc are expected to be at the airport as the Governor arrives the state capital. When the Governor arrived last in this type of fanfare, a coffin was paraded with the inscription: ‘Joe Agi rest in peace’. We don’t know what will happen this time around.

14th December 2016
It should also be noted that Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) proposes second quarter of 2017 for the conduct of Local Government Council Election in the State. Does it imply that the state will be starved of LG funds from the federation accounts until at least June 2017? Hmmmmm…
