Being Press Statement by the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Her Excellency, Dr. Linda Ayade, in Preparation for the Celebration of the 2016 World AIDS Day on 1st December, 2016.

The Cross River State Government is joining the rest of the world to celebrate the World AIDS Day on December 1st as the state has done for about 12 years now.

The theme for this year’s World AIDS Day Celebration is “Hands Up for #HIVprevention”. This theme is a response to the report that the decline in new HIV infections among adults has stalled! The UNAIDS Prevention gap report shows that an estimated 1.9 million adults have become infected with HIV every year for at least the past five years worldwide and that the number of new HIV infections is rising in some regions.

Reinvigorated efforts towards ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. So for this year, we are raising our hands in support of More Condoms, Inclusion, Social Protection, Sexual Education, Testing, Faithfulness & Abstinence.

To this end, I invite all political office holders, development partners & CSOs operating in Calabar, teachers, students and the general public to join His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade, by 7am on 1st of December, 2016 at the Millennium Park (that is, 11-11 Roundabout) for the HIV/AIDS Walk which will terminate at Calabar Municipal Council where will open the Christmas Village for Business.

I invite all members of the press to join us for the walk. I also thank all of you for your partnership as we continue this fight for the development and health of Cross River State, and indeed Nigeria.

Thank you.
