Being a Press Release made in reaction to the 30 December 2016 Christmas Package given by Sen. Gershom Bassey to the CRS Southern Senatorial District PDP family

On behalf of the entire youths of Calabar Municipality, and Southern Cross River State (CRS) Youth Council, I wish to use this medium to congratulate our legislator, Sen. Gershom Bassey for his giant-stride act of giving out Christmas packages to people of Southern CRS (i.e. his constituency).

Findings prove that ten names per ward were selected for the Christmas package. Yet one wonders why it is then called 'Christmas Package'. It should rather be called 'Empowerment', because  packages are meant for everyone, while empowerments are meant for a part of that group or society.

Again, we the youths have observed high-level marginalisation and disregard by our leaders for the youth-folk; despite having a very youth-friendly administration in the state, through the Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade. That is why we observed that after releasing Christmas packages for the different Local Government Areas (LGA) in Southern CRS, Sen. Bassey gave N500, 000.00 (five hundred thousand Naira) as a package for the Women, without anything for the youths nor students.

It depicts a big dislocation in society, because we are the energetic ones that usually move as foot soldiers during
elections, but we are well despised by most of our leaders.

We feel Sen. Bassey does not have the youths at heart. That is why the CRS chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria is not being carried along.

Therefore, we seek redress and wish to have our package for the youths sent to us. Where that is done, the youths shall then believe the Senator has them in mind.

Best regards.
