Unical 39th Matriculation: 7,600 Privileged few Students Succeeded.

The University of Calabar did  on Saturday, 3rd of February, 2017 matriculate 7,600 fresh students
into various faculties and institutes of the school at the Abraham Ordia stadium within the campus.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Zana Akpagu, who led the procession of principal officers including provost, deans of the various faculties, while declaring the 39th matriculation ceremony open said:

“It is thus, a great challenge to all of you who have been given admission to live up to expectation and defend your admission by hardworking and passing your examination very well.

You are expected to keep to the rules and regulations of the school; bearing in mind that the institution exhibits zero tolerance for any defaulters and that ignorance is a no excuse.

It is worthy of note that “not fewer than 20,175 candidates who made Unical as their first choice in their UTME forms, out of the 20,175, scored above 180 in UTME and were invited for the screening test since aptitude test is no longer obtainable in tertiary institutions, after the screening exercise 7,600 candidates were finally admitted”.

A breakdown of figures showed that 68% of the candidates were admitted into departments that are science based which include Medicine and surgery and medical related courses while 38% of the candidates were admitted into Arts and Humanities which covers Education, Law, Social and Management
Sciences.

The VC Prof. Zana further congratulated the freshers’ on their victory over the university's tedious admission criteria.

He implore freshmen to judiciously utilize the
school facilities (library and E-library) always for their success on campus.

He said “Unical no longer issue out pass level certificate, so strive to leave the university with a first class and second class.

Most importantly, now that
Nigerian economy is experiencing difficult it is pertinent as student to learn skills in other to curb the situation, the university has a
compulsory entrepreneurship training for all students, no student is advised to missed this
great opportunity, avail yourself to these opportunities so that at the end you will be found fit in Learning, Character and skills”.

In the same order, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Moses Abang called on the Deans of each faculty for presentation of fresh students before the Vice Chancellor, who formally admitted them.

While speaking with our correspondence, the VC said “Matriculation is one of the academic tradition of all tertiary institutions.

39th matriculation stands one of the best because Unical has admitted new students into various department and faculties newly created across the varsity there are;

Faculty of engineering and technology, Faculty of dentistry, faculty of oceanography, department of pharmacy, Fine and Applied Arts, Music, Tourism and Hospitality Management, physiotherapy and food science technology, mass communication, indigenous & Asian studies, etc. and four departments domiciled in the Faculty of Dentistry.

Finally, the students admitted into these new departments will not just graduate but will be the best in their field of studies amongst others.

The matriculation ground was a beehive of activities as both parents and well wishers of the new undergraduates were on ground to felicitate
with them.

After the formal induction, the Vice Chancellor declared 39th matriculation closed and led the process one again out of the ceremony.
