The publisher of a popular online information portal, Mr. Hope Obeten, has explained why Mr Bassey Ekpenyong, the recently evicted housemate of the South African-based reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, failed to emerge the winner of the show despite speculations and high hopes. According to Obeten, Bassey was unexpectedly evicted because his campaigners, 'failed to understand the dynamics of social media'.

For him, Team Bassey campaigners concentrated more on Calabar voters via Facebook campaigns instead of extending their reach to a wider population via Twitter. Obeten bragged that the winner of the reality TV show 'will be won on Twitter'.

His words, 'Bassey is gone and am not surprise because we thought campaigning for Bassey in Calabar will keep him in the Big Brother House. We ignored social media influencers, believe me or not Big Brother Naija will be won on Twitter. Follow the trend on Twitter and you will atleast know the 3 finalist. The team Bassey campaigners failed to understand the dynamics of social media.

'I only jumped into the campaign few days ago after Mummy Thelma Bello called at midnight, in her words "Hope, What do we do to keep Bassey in the house" I told her how we were getting it all wrong. We know what we did to keep Patrick Shadow in The Voice Nigeria. We failed Bassey but am optimistic, he's a great chap, intelligent and creative, him go blow!', he concluded.

But, it seems to me that the publisher shot himself on the foot when he meant that his Twitter campaigns for Patrick Shadow only sustained the contestant a little longer on The Voice Nigeria. Shadow didn't win either. Or, am I getting Obeten wrong.

Meanwhile, welcome home Bassey! You represented Cross Riverians well.
