Gov. Ayade Appoints Dr.(Mrs)Janet Adah Alorye as COHTECH Provost

Recently, Prof. Benedict Ayade Governor of Cross River State has appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Janet Adah Alorye as Provost of the Nigeria’s leading College of Health Technology in Calabar.

This appointment was made in the 10th matriculation of the institution.

Speaking on his appointment, said it is an honour and a challenge to which I am committed.

"My administration will work assiduously with the government of Prof Ayade to make sure the banner of COHTECH Calabar is flown for the world to see".

This is an opportunity for me indeed to learn and do more than what I did while I was still acting.

Experience:

Janet was most recently Acting Provost, worked in Academic planning unit for admission screening, assistance to Registrar all in COHTECH.

She holds: BSc in Health Education, M.Sc in Health Education, Ph.D in Health, University of Calabar, Calabar.

In COHTECH not fewer than 710 students took oath of allegiance.

They were all colorfully and elegantly dressed,
looking astonishing with the blue academic
gown crested with the college’s logo at the
top left and right corner.

The college looked more beautiful as various decorations all over the campus with different colours indicating combination of dreams and purpose.

The students were looking so excited as they move in the school premises in pairs and cliques to be inducted as fresh bonafide students of the College. Many were seen taking pictures in excitement, indeed
matriculation is a day that many new students have been longing to partake.

That was the happening at College of Health Technology, Calabar during its 10th matriculation ceremony for the 2016/2017 academic session.

The governing Council boss Rt. Hon. Fabian Okpa in welcoming His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade ably represented by the Deputy Prof. Ivara Esu, Commissioner for Education Barr. Godwin Etta, Commissioner for Health Dr. (Mrs.) Inyang Asibong, the principal officers, parents, visitors and matriculants said

"COHTECH will not fail in her primary mandate of grooming, producing quality students for the growth of Nigeria as our country"

In humility the college community, staffs and students welcomes His Excellency, commissioners, parents and visitor to 10th matriculation.

Declaring open the event which signifies official acceptance of the students into the school, the Acting Provost Dr. (Mrs.) Janet Alorye before her official appointment, while congratulating the new students for their admission into the institution said the privilege given to them came with responsibilities which
required the students to take their studies serious, urging
matriculating students to be of good character.

Janet urged the students to aim for excellence, saying the event marked the beginning of their academic journey in the school adding that they must be disciplined for them to achieve greatness in life.

“As freshmen, I implore you to be receptive of all the good things that could come your way in the lecture halls, hostels, campus, and even in Cross River State,” she said.

She added, “Our vision in COHTECH will be a training institution of excellence with a clear focus on producing relevant and competent graduates, capable of providing an efficient modern Primary Health Care Services".

She told the students in addition he assured the parents that their Children are in to get the best as the College of Health Technology in Nigeria (second to none) has the state of the art facilities, entrepreneurial unit to aid learning thereby ensuring a smooth running of their programs.

“We are on a mission to produce well trained, highly committed and devoted practitioners for the Primary tier of the Health Service, in an environment of highest quality teaching, learning and ethos compatible with parent centered community practice"

Structures have been put in place to ensure a comfortable life for all our students in the areas of security, accommodation, conducive and congenial teaching and learning environment” she added.

The high point of the event was the symbolic taking of oath  by the new students of each department and
the administering of oath by the Acting Provost.

The Dean of students affairs, Mr Ncho, told the students that the oath is binding on them and they must live up to the expectation of the college.

He further urged them not to go against the letters of the oath as it will attract penalties based on the school student disciplinary act.

His Excellency Prof. Ivara Esu congratulate freshmen for scaling through the rigorous exercise of screening and the institution for maintaining her first position in the nation.

"The government of Prof Ayade is doing and planning much for the educational sector", he added.

Finally presented an official appointment letter signed by Governor Ayade and Commissioner of Education Barr. Godwin Etta to Dr. (Mrs.) Janet Adah Alorye as the Provost of the College of Health Technology, Mary slessor, Calabar.
