Yesterday 6th May the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State suffered a major upset as an acclaimed political iroko, Senator John Owan Enoh, representing the Central Senatorial District of the state at the National Assembly formally defected to the APC in his ward, Agbokim Waterfalls.
Owan-Enoh has cited reasons for yesterday’s defection one of which is aligning with the political powers at the centre, being a prominent member of the Red Chamber, to be able to attract development to his constituency. However, feelers has it that his explanation seem dishonest as he is jumping sheep for obvious fears of being denied the PDP ticket during the forthcoming elections in 2019 owing to his erstwhile quarrel with the state governor, Sen. Prof Ben Ayade.

Other feelers has it that Owan-Enoh’s decamping is predicated on his intention to be relevant at national politicking, secure his investment and sustain his political achievements —that is, selfish reasons rather than constituency or ideological concerns, prompted his decision.
Whatever, his exit from the PDP is a profound loss. Already, the APC in the state is already celebrating him. The mistaken permutations of former Governor Liyel Imoke that foisted the incumbent state governor in the state seem to be rearing its head in the incumbent allowing Owan-Enoh’s defection.
