The CEO/MD of La ‘Shakara Couture, Mr Joseph Edet, leading branding company in Calabar, Cross River, Tuesday, expressed his likely intention to relocate away from the state to more tax-friendly climes NegroidHaven can report authoritatively.
NegroidHaven further gathered from Edet’s social media account that the ace brand enterpreneur was at a lost as to why they were multiple taxes in Cross River. He featured a retinue of tax notices which, according to him, where not even exhaustive of the plethora of notices he had received.
Edet revealed that the present tax regime is unfavourable for business in the state thereby scaring some. He said, for popular brands like his, he is most likely to relocate to Abuja and Lagos.
Hear him out, ‘Can someone please explain why we are paying so much taxes in Cross River State? (These are not all the notices we have received this year)…
‘I understand that a lot of businesses have left our dear State, they may end up driving people like us who are now in the spotlight!
‘Well ABUJA AND LAGOS won’t be a bad idea…’
The level of exodus of enterpreneurs/businesses from Cross River is frightening because of a perceived unfriendly tax regime.
Virtually every agency the governor of Cross River State has created has their tax charge. So, we celebrated Gov Ayade for appointing an army, now the appointees, beyond their salaries, are asking for more. They are paid with tax money and they demand more taxes. Hmmm!
The Governor of Cross River State should call his army of ‘tax collecting appointees’ to steer wisely. They were not appointed to generate revenue by taxing businesses to fright and flight, they were conscripted to evolve policies that will create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
I think the monthly N150, 000 remuneration a glaringly indolent DG of an office-spaceless, job description-less agency collects should be enough! Our mumu don do!
