3 June 2017

Sequel to the malicious report issued on the 30th day of May 2017 by Mr Emmanuel Ulayi against my principal, most distinguished Senator Prince Bassey Otu on Governor Ayade's strides in two (2) years, as the chief media personnel to Senator Otu, I wish to state very unequivocally:  that the people's Senator never commented through any medium, whatsoever on the status of the Cross River State so far.
It is very surprising to me that a man who had since returned to the Lord's vineyard was quoted to have said so much within the political space which he had long soft-pedaled.
In an effort to ascertain the authenticity of the source of the report, a two-man delegation within my department visited Emmanuel Ulayi to inquire when(time), where(place) and how he gathered this report? Only for them to be confronted with sincere apologies in his words, 'I am very sorry for what I wrote about the Senator, I never saw it to be offensive, I hold Senator Otu in very high esteem, I used his name as friend to the Governor and Senator Florence Giwa's name as a mother in the state, my brothers all these is politics but I sincerely apologize, next time I will endeavour to communicate with him before publication and I thank you for your cooperation and understanding.'
After I heard the brief from my staff and knowing my principal to be an icon of peace, I know he will forgive him but on our part next time, we will not hesitate to seek legal redress for defamation regardless of whoever is involved and/or their sponsors as appropriate.
Ekpenyong Akiba
Media Aide to Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu.
