The Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of an online news repository based in Cross River State, Mazi Onun Endurance of Cross River Daily Newspaper, Tuesday, decried the perceived underhand dealings of Nigeria's largest telecommunications giants, MTN.
According to Endurance, he spent the sum of N4,500 to acquire a 3.5GB data subscription billed to span 30 days, however, it got exhausted in 7 days. For the online publisher, that is fraudulent. In fact, it's a form of 'cybercrime and money laundering'.
His words, 'Fellow Nigerians,
Cyber Crime & Money Laundering:
Cyber Crime is when MTN 3.5GB data that was supposed to last for 1 month finishes within 1 week and Money Laundering is when you spend the sum of N4,500 to buy MTN 3.5GB data and then it is  exhausted whereas the purpose for which it was purchased hasn’t been attended to'.
Being a university student and student activist who even contested for the Office of President of University of Calabar Students Union Government, Endurance is contemplating a protest today: 'First thing tomorrow morning, I’ll be going to MTN office @EtaAgor Road to go and cause wahala…I need a backup…Any volunteer? #MTN_Ishie'.
NegroidHaven is yet to ascertain if Endurance has finally protested or not, or if he even had supporters for the planned protest.
However, while one may have reservations against the quality of services telecommunications giants in Nigeria render, one, especially me still find it difficult to understand which MTN mobile data plan publisher Endurance is referring to that charges N4, 500 for 3.5GB data. I know that MTN charges N2000 for 2.5GB plus a 1GB data, N2,500 for 5GB, etc. Na which one be N4, 500 for 3.5GB, Mazi Endurance!? Hmmm!
In September 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) confirmed that internet penetration in Nigeria has gone up from 10% to 14% in 2 years and were optimistic that it will reach 30% by 2018. It's alleged that Nigeria has a more costly charge for mobile data services, etc across the world.
Publisher Endurance sorry oooo, na like so obodo Naija deh.
