Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu yesterday said she met Primary Health Care Under one Roof Rating in CRS at 15% but has improved it to 93% and must hit the 100% mark in next 6 months. She said the only way we can be effective in improving the lots of our people is to be at the field carrying out spot checks, doing supportive supervision and improving capacity of workers, as we improve their facilities.
She called on staff and partners of the agency to strengthen their supportive supervision by making supervision of healthcare facilities around their vicinity a daily routine as it will help strengthen some anomalies and improve health workers performance in low resource settings.
She said supportive supervision promotes quality at all levels of health system by strengthening relationships within the system through prompt identification and resolution of problems among others.
Dr Edu noted that at the last National Council of Health Meeting it was agreed that every State Primary Healthcare Agency should create Local Government Health Authority that will ensure Health workers performance are checked as well as create a health system strengthening structure at Local government areas.
The DG said she is certain the Agency will bring sanity to Primary Healthcare in Cross River State while assuring that the Governor of Cross River State Sen. Ben Ayade and the Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu is working so hard with key stakeholders to ensure that Immunization steering committee meeting is held and key revitalization is achieved.
She lauded UNICEF and other development partners for their support to the hosting of the technical working group meetings.
Also speaking, Dr Ojo Muyiwa of World Health Organisation (WHO) said Primary Healthcare under one roof is to ensure Human resource and Workforce domicile in the Agency receive proper direction on their roles. Furthermore working on performance management system to effect performance of healthcare workers in such a way that the will be reward for best primary healthcare facility, best staff of the PHC and the best PHC Coordinator etc
He said WHO will be working with the Human Resource Unit/Admin to ensure they build capacity among the workers.
Dr Ana Director Primary Health Care was on ground and read the terms of reference for the TWG. Other partners like UNICEF representative and FHi360 were present PHC Doctors and PHC Cordinators of Calabar south and Municipal, reps from other MDAs.
