The Post-Graduate Students Government (PGSG) of the University of Calabar, Calabar (UNICAL) led by its president, Comr. Bassey Williams has been embroiled in a financial scandal amounting to the tune of N1. 7 million NegroidHaven has garnered. The nature of financial scandal border on misappropriation and embezzlement at various fronts.
It’s alleged that the Comr. Williams Presidency of PGSG UNICAL, which was elected on 12th July and sworn-in on 2nd August 2017, after withdrawing the sum of N1.7 million for ‘Take-off Grant’ from its N2.2 million 6000873861(?) Heritage Bank account told the Dean of Students Affairs of UNICAL, Professor Felix Akpan and other members of the Executive Council of PGSG that it withdrew N1.2 (concealing the sum of N500, 000).
It’s alleged that the trio of President Comr. Bassey Williams, Financial Secretary Solomon Matthew and Treasurer Catherine Agbor made away with the concealed-until-now N500, 000 with a sharing formula of President N200, 000; Financial Secretary N150, 000 and Treasurer N150, 000. However, Treasurer Agbor is denying complicity in this N500,000. Implying, after withdrawing N1,200,000 may have behind the Treasurer withdraw N500,000.
As for the N1. 2 million withdrawals for ‘take-off grant’, the dispensing across board goes thus NegroidHaven has learnt:
*President Bassey Williams: N100,000; and N120,000 for repairs of father’s car he barged.
*Vice President Nkpong Otong: N70,000
*Secretary Levi David O.: N65,000
*Fin. Secretary Solomon Matthew N50,000
*Treasurer Catherine Agbor: N50,000
*Deputy Secretary General Affiong Iyibio: N55,000
*Director of Welfare Eugene Onor: N50,000
*Public Relations Officer Chianebeng Japhet Kuma: N50,000
*Director of Socials Ime I.: N50,000
*Provost Orok Abasierem Ita-Abasi: no information
*Senate of PGSG, UNICAL: N160,000
(15 Senators got N10,000 and Senate President, N20, 000).
*Debt (for 2nd August inauguration): N140,000.
(Totaling : N150,000 with N240,000 outstanding).
Dean of Students Affairs Prof. Akpan has waded into the development particularly demanding that the trio of President, Financial Secretary and Treasurer return their alleged loot. Albeit, our source has it that the Dean is exonerating the Financial Secretary for allegedly turning over his loot, while the President is yet to, presently sourcing for funds. On her part, the Treasurer is still insisting that she didn’t collect the sum of N150,000 from the N500,000 for which the Dean has promised to suspend her. Our correspondent further learnt that the duo of President and Financial Secretary decided to rope in the Treasurer on the basis of her alleged refusal to collude in withdrawing additional N1,000,000 (after the first withdrawal of N1,200,000) for oil-bunkering venture anticipated to rake in N250,000 gain weekly. NegroidHaven is yet to independently confirm majority of the information here.

Senate summons letter that leaked to NegroidHaven

The Samuel Uket N.-Led Senate will be seating today Thursday at the Common Lodge of PGSG (Ali Mungono Republik) over the scandal having summoned some affected EXCO officers. The president, financial secretary and treasurer have been confirmed to be summoned.
The question begging for answer is —why did the Williams-led EXCO chose to get a ‘take-off grant’ when the Samuel-presided Senate had promised to speedily pass her budget into law?
