Gridlock at Ikot Ekpo section of Calabar-Odukpani Road
Efio-Ita Nyok|23 November 2017
Beginning from Tuesday, 21st November at the Scanobo, Ikot Ekpo section of the Calabar-Odukpani federal there’s a failed section that elongates a once fifteen minutes drive to 4 hours.
The disappointed citizenry have reacted, hear them out :

CALABAR, CRS CAPITAL CITY, IN A LOGJAM SINCE YESTERDAY.
Since Tuesday, 21st November, 2017 the only road in and out of Calabar, the CRS capital is almost impassable, thereby increasing a 15 minute journey over that stretch around Ikot Ekpo in Calabar, to a 4 hour journey, if not more. For how long shall we continue like this, as if our State government is on vacation ?

Cross Riverians desire good and accessible roads that link our communities and villages, rather dream and bogus projects (Super Highway and Super Seaport) that are only seen on Bill boards and in the social media pages. Together, we need to rescue, restore and rebuild our State – the land of our ancestral birth.

It is the social responsibility of the Cross River State government to remove this undesirable logjam from our roads and give Nigerians easy passage to their destinations!

Sad  !

What is the duty of the Advisers to the Governor of CRS on this matter? The Governor may not be aware of the appalling condition of that stretch of road. Am only thinking.

Hmmm, governance has reduced Calabar to a pathetic tale. Potholes everywhere, no electricity for months, insecurity reign supreme, excessive taxation is harming investment, and killing small/ medium scale enterprises. Yet, no one cares. Cronyism and settlement mentality are not the right path to real development.

Although I am not exonerating the State Government of blame, but a higher proportion of the blame goes to the Federal Government because this is a Federal road. And I learnt (correct me if I am wrong) contract had since been awarded.

Thanks Sir, you are always there for the poor and less privileged. They always use airbus even from calabar to Uyo and can’t feel the pains and sufferings of people who voted them into power.

Mau mau you seem to be for getting something here, since we are now dealing with a DIGITAL GOVERNOR who is handling cross river stase in a DIGITAL way, now even our road has gone DIGITAL. To God be the glory, calabar we hail thee.

There is respite now at the Ikot Ekpo/Scanobo traffic gridlock. The State Road Maintenance Agency promptly intervened to bring succor.

Stuck in Odukpani holdup!!! (any Cross Riverian or regular visitor will understand)
no VIO
no POLICE
no ROAD SAFETY
no DOPT
no GREEN POLICE
no HOMELAND SECURITY
ONLY GENTLEMEN OF THE NIGERIAN Army are here HELPING to CORDINATE and REGULATE the traffic. The same NIGERIAN ARMY that’s saddled with protecting the NIGERIAN territory.

Later now they’ll say we are uniformed men! Did i mention that earlier today before i got stuck, some POLICE MEN had harrassed the driver of the bus i boarded and even started a car chase just because of… You know na, #100

When certain units of government completely and totally neglect their primary assignment for money, the result is always anarchy glorified. What is happening within Scanobo is a typical example. Where are the men of the Road Safety, Police, DOPT etc? I know the Governor is not suppose to do this job of clearing the gridlock there but if his reprimands are like those of Eli and Samuel of old whose caution on their children were very weak. Then, it is obvious that just as the children of Israel became fed up and demanded for a king, the people of Cross River will also be fed up and demand for a change of leadership.

The solution can’t be only through a change of leadership in the state but from the top that is responsible for this federal roads But if U don’t mind to here… No vacancy in our government house. Ayada for 2019.
Akiba Ekpenyong
There’s no road in n out of Calabar.
Very shameful. From Calabar to Okurikang-Okoyong now 5hours drive plus.
I am calling on the relevant ministries, departments and agencies to address the gridlock at the Federal road. Meanwhile, His Excellency Mr Ben Ayade should have evolved a possible solution to the road. That’s the only road in and out of the state capital, Calabar.
