In line with the workers-friendly disposition of the state Governor, Professor Ben Ayade, the Cross River State Government yesterday commenced the payment of gratuities to some retirees in the state.
This is even as the state is up to date regarding the payment of pensions to its retirees.
It is understood that those who got cheques today for their gratuities belong to the 2013 set. Governor Ayade has been consistent in insisting that workers who retire after contributing to the economic well-being of the state are paid their entitlements to guarantee minimum comfort.
Jubilation as Primary Healthcare  workers receives January salary alert
As January 2018 salary alert hit the individual accounts of more than 3000 health workers across the State; Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu has reflected on how Governor Ben Ayade prompt and regularly payment of salaries to primary healthcare workers has improved workers commitment to work and has also kept the Local Government economy afloat.
She said over the years, Cross River State has been known as a civil service state and civil servants basically drive the economy. However with the new industrialisation push of Governor Ben Ayade, he's bound to change the dynamics. However, the Governor still believes strongly in the fact that civil service is still a great machinery that can be used to drive industralisation, hence the investment in their welfare. So this is simply boosting the economy from all angles.
According to her it will boost the State revenue and  increases employee morale, productivity, and quality of work and decreases in turnover and the cost of training and supervision.
She noted that prompt payment of salaries puts money in the pockets of workers who need to spend it and reduces poverty.
"The Ayade's system of paying salary to health workers before state will not only motivate health workers but would reduce poverty and less dependence on government assisted programs.
"The facts are clear. Prompt payment of salaries is not just the right thing to do. It’s a smart economic decision as well said the DG.
Many staff express their gratitude to the Governor and plead that he continues to keep this Pace despite the financial challenges of the state.
