One of the leading contenders for the seat of Obubra ll State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr. Francis Ovat gets assurance when he met with all the constituency ward EXCOs on Thursday.
Frank Ovat during his remark, promised to make Obubra II State Constituency an envious bride, return it lost pride and make it more peaceful again. "I want to work together with all institutions, groups and communities as well as the political leadership of the constituency to return it lost pride, especially the peace and brotherliness of the Adun/Okum people, while making sure every community feels the impact of government."
Mr. Ovat further promised the people that when he leaves, he'll be leaving a benchmark for assessment, and for others who'll come after him.
During the long lasting meeting with the EXCOs, Ovat later presented himself to the delegates as an aspirant for the House of Assembly seat in the constituency. While lamenting the pathetic situation of his people as regards political representation in the state, he informed the people that his core driving force is to make up for the leadership deficit in the constituency, especially at the state level.
The Assembly hopeful was clear when he told his constituents to be that, Cross River State has no companies and industries, neither is it an oil rich State, therefore, the people see political representation as the only means through which they can draw meaningful development to their areas. "To us, politics is our oil well, and therefore it is sacrosanct to send people who have psycho-economically prepared themselves over time, people who will speak in the interest of the people and familiar with the political terrain to represent you", Ovat said.
He said his coming to contest election is to make a simple difference in the hitherto narrative.
Responding, the ward chairmen of Ofodua, Iyamoyong and Ovat wards, as well as the Chairman of all ward Chairmen in Obubra were ull of appreciation to the aspirant for such an important and strategic meeting, noting that they are very confident on the personality and political breed of Frank.
They reminded other delegates that the constituency has been left without a representative for over a year now due to the careless political misadventures of the former Member who was thrown out of the Assembly for prematurely defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC against constitutional provisions. They did not end without a solemn but vehement promise to support him anytime any day.
The chapter Chairman who also was in attendance expressed surprise on the turnout at the meeting, saying, "it is the highest gathering of statutory delegates so far, and I promised that the party is not going to renege on it's decision to allow a free and transparent process that'll see only the most popular candidates clinch tickets." He was confident that if primaries comes today, Frank would be the man to clinch victory.
Meanwhile, the Assembly hopeful had on Wednesday attended the Constituency Empowerment Programme of Hon. Mike Etaba, Member Representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
Ovat spoke so glowingly about his NASS Representative. He said it was the first time first grade, full option cares are given to chapter Chairmen in the Federal Constituency, noting that Hon. Mike has maintained a very healthy relationship with his constituents, reminding the people that it was just in April the Representative doled out over twenty two million naira in cash to celebrate Easter with his constituents.
Mr. Frank stormed the empowerment ground amidst thunderous cheers and ovations from his overwhelming crowd of supporters.
