Popular social commentator, Mr Simon Utsu has slammed Tuface Idibia's recent musical piece, Amaka Disappoint Me' as one of the worst things to happen to Nigeria's art.
For Utsu, the music legend should be churning out more conscious works by now.
His words, '”Amaka disappoint me” by 2Face is one of the worst things that has happened to Nigerian art in recent years. I know lots of Nigerian folks will argue against this in their usual fanatic fashion but someone should explain how and why someone who is supposed to be a legend of African music will release such a song that should be reserved for musicians in their 20s? At this stage in his career, 2Baba should be releasing more conscious ish!
'I mean, look at the likes of JayZ, Nas and Eminem who started out at about the same time with him. Nas has always been a conscious rapper but his recently released “Nasir” was all shades of political and ghetto consciousness! And the major theme of JayZ’s “4:44” released last year was educating the younger (black) rappers on financial investments- away from the drugs, women and jewelry lyrics of his “Reasonable doubt” years.
'Even the lousy genius, Eminem nearly brought tears to my eyes with his most recent highly conscious releases. I was touched by the lyrical depth and philosophy in his 2017 “Walk on water” duet with Beyoncé. Was even more touched by his “headlight” single where he lambasted himself for hitting his mum hard in his lyrics in his earlier years in the industry. He also released a viral politically themed (anti-Trump) freestyle last year.
'Mr Innocent Idibia aka 2Face should grow up and stop featuring skimpily dressed ladies in his videos and singing about booty calls! His Benue backyard has been a hotbed of ethnic violence of late, is he waiting for Terry G or Zulezoo to lead the struggle?
Do you agree with Utsu? Sime have said, the said track under review is purely for entertainment, that Tuface sings to his audience while doing conscious pieces. Do you agree
