A former Attorney General of Cross River in the Donald Duke administration, Eyo O. Ekpo, picked up his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Cross River State’s gubernatorial contest at the Social Democratic Party (SDP) national headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Speaking before collecting his form, Ekpo said: “My decision to contest the governorship on the SDP platform, is due to my conviction that this Party represents a credible alternative to the current State Government leadership that has grievously failed to deliver any improvement in the material well-being of the people in this state”.
“Historically, the SDP is a party associated with hope, and I believe that hope is now within reach for Cross Riverians. I am eager to share my plans and the SDP’s message to all citizens in all parts of the state.”
“I call on well-meaning Cross Riverians to join a movement that is genuine about reversing the decline of the state, especially in the last three years. We urgently need to recover and restore the promise and prosperity of Cross River. We cannot afford four more years of wanton neglect, absentee governance, and insecurity”, the former Special Adviser on Special Projects to the Liyel Imoke administration said.
Speaking with Dr. Abdul Ahmed Isiaq, Deputy National Chairman of the SDP, Mr Ekpo thanked the SDP for giving the youth a viable platform for active participation, saying “The youth are the most important demographic not just as voters to win elections but also as partners in innovation and development across the country.”
