CALABAR  – Mrs Blessing Egbara, People’s  Democratic Party, PDP, Senatorial aspirant for the central district of Cross River State has expressed confidence that though a number of men are contending for the same position with her, she would come out victorious in the party’s primaries scheduled for next week.
Mrs Egbara who stated this while addressing the State Executive Working Committee of the party in Calabar on Thursday said she has the support of the women in the district and a good number of men who will vote for her in the primary elections.
She said she has toured the six local government areas that form the district to present her manifesto and from the positive reception she received from the delegates and voters she is confident that victory will come her way.
“The men are our husbands and our fathers and I have no doubt that they will support me by voting for me and I can assure you that my programme for the district is one that everyone sees as workable and  laudable which can transform the lives of the people and develop the area in less than four years”.
She said skills acquisition, provision of soft loans for farmers and business owners and provision of educational scholarship would be her major preoccupation when voted to office because that is the fastest way to improve the lives of the people.
“I have over two hundred people in my employment  which shows my capacity and capability. This time is for women because men have done their best and nothing tangible has come of it since 1999 so a woman should be given the opportunity this time to make the difference and show that things can be done differently  and better”.
On the threat by women of the district to boycott the election if denied the Senate  ticket, Mrs Egbara said it was not a threat but a show of solidarity with her  candidature following the prolonged neglect of the women in the district in elective offices”.
“There has been no female Reps member, Senator, Chairman if not for just one House of Assembly member, there has been none in the central district while other districts of the state  have had women elected to such positions over and over again so the men should take the back seat in 2019 and allow a woman to represent the district in the senate”.
Egbara who said she supports the re-election of Senator Ben Ayade as governor  of the state said former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar  as the President of the country in 2019 because he has all it takes to make the country prosperous again and therefore be nominated as  the PDP presidential flag bearer.
