The gubernatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River State will be conducted today, 1st of October at the various 18 local government areas of the state in a direct primary style.
This is as a result of the inability of the party to do that yesterday owing to the late arrival to the state and subsequent despatch of party primary materials to the LGAs.
According to online publisher Ukorebi Esien, primary materials were seen to be leaving state party secretariat by 1:35PM: 'Election materials leaving APC secretariat at about 1:35 Pm. Sunday 30th Sept. Am just wandering when there will arrive other LGA's and when will they also distribute to their various wards.'
However, the Chief Etim John faction of the state leadership of the APC in Cross River has reportedly declared Mr Usani Usani as the winner of the governorship primary conducted yesterday.
The Dr Matthew Achigbe will conduct guber primary for the trio of High Chief Edem Duke, Senator John Owan-Enoh and Prof Eyo Nyong. It is said by a source that after a joint meeting at the State Secretariat with the South South APC National Vice Chairman and the State Working Committee, it was resolved that the materials for election would be forwarded to the Divisional Police Headquarters of all 18 LGAs and collection will begin at 8AM today.
It was also reported that a group of persons claiming to be APC members in Obubra LGA were arrested this morning by men of the Nigeria Police after trying to conduct an illegal primaries. This has been denied by a very close source in Usani's Camp.
Meanwhile, Governor Ben Ayade of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, was returned unopposed yesterday in the indirect primary that was conducted.
