President Mohammadu Buhari has commended Cross River State Governor Professor Ben Ayade for his handling of the Erei crisis in Biase local government of Cross River State.

President Buhari stated this on his official twitter handle @Mbuhari "I commend the Cross River State Government and the State Police Command for acting swiftly to prevent the violence in Biase Local Government Area from escalating. There is no justification whatsoever for the bloodshed and destruction of property."

Following the outbreak of hostilities, Governor Ayade mobilised security agencies to the troubled spots to de-escalate the crisis and return peace to the affected communities.

President Buhari further stated that our communities must be ready to live together in peace and that no development can take place in an atmosphere of recurring violence.

Continuing, president Buhari added that law and order must be allowed to prevail in our communities.

The villages of Abawan Urugbam, Ipene and Egbor in Erei Biase have been in perennial hostilities over ownership of an oil palm estate.
