29 May 2019
All is now set for the rehoisting of Africa's biggest and world's second biggest flag in Calabar, Cross River State capital city today NEGROIDHAVEN can say authoritatively.
This disclosure was made recently to our correspondent from Mr Joseph Edet the erstwhile Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurship and Job Placement. Edet explained that the symbolism in the flag is the statement of commitment by this state administration to embark and complete projects which will provide opportunity for indigenes and residents of the state. While the 18 smaller flags is a statement of unity of Cross Riverians in the 18 Local Government Areas.
The former SSA who disclosed that the previous version of the flag which will be replaced today lasted for five months  more than others observed that the version which will be hoisted today was sown at the Garment Factory.
His words, 'We will rehoist the biggest flag in Africa which is located at 11-11 Millennium Park in Calabar simultaneously with the Swearing in Ceremony of the Executive Governor of CrossRiver State on the 29th of May. Coincidentally, The Stadium is Adjacent the flags position thus it will have an amazing view during the Ceremony.
'Basically, the concept I had to sell to the Governor is, I said, let us up this flag and reassure people that you will complete projects. Let us use it as a significance that you are committed to finishing projects.
'The beauty of it is that I did it at the Garment Factory. I had to go and explore the strength of the Garment Factory. Do you know we finished the flag in 5 hours, as big as that flag is. The combination, technicalities, where to join it, where not to join it, how to reinforce it, etc.
'If you noticed, this our flag has lasted more than any other flag we've had. This one is 5 months and we've not had to change it.'

The dimensions of the current flag to be rehoisted is '24 by 14 metres' (that is, 80 by 45 feets).
