The 9th Cross River State House of Assembly committee on youths and sports development has directed the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to furnish the committee with relevant information to enable the legislature address critical issues facing them NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.
The committee chairman, Hon. Frank Ovat who gave the directive in Calabar the state capital during a familiarisation visit to Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs under it said the idea is to get first hand information and familiarise with its officials.
In her response, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mrs Mary-Jane Ebri who took time to enumerate the ministry's success in delivering its core mandate of moulding the youths to contribute meaningfully to the society, said they are faced with issues of funding, lack of sufficient office space and the need for facilities at the NYSC Orientation Camp to be ungraded adding that Cross River is faced with a high risk of loosing the orientation camp to another state if nothing is urgently and adequately done.
Earlier, in a similar visit to the Cross River State Sports Commission where the committee was welcomed by the state Director of Sports, Mr Jude, the committee had a direct interface with the management and staff who expressed hope for a better future because its former member, Hon. Frank Ovat is now the chairman of the committee and he is familiar with its challenges.
After taking turns to explain their challenges, the vice chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Mathew Olori promised that the committee would do everything within its powers to draw the governor's attention and hopefully sports would be given its desired attention urging them to continue to be committed in individual talent because they have no idea of where sports would take them to.
Also in attendance was the secretary of the committee, Mr Kingsley Ntor.
