Honourable Justice Akon Ikpeme
18 December 2019

Yesterday, the National Judicial Council, sitting in Abuja, approved some judicial nominations NEGROIDHAVEN has garnered. One is the nomination for Hon. Justice Akon Ikpeme to the office of Chief Judge of Cross River State.

Nevertheless, it is not yet Uhuru: according to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended, it is now left for the House of Assembly of Cross River to ratify this nomination and forward Justice Ikpeme’s name to the Governor of Cross River State for formal appointment and swearing-in.
A credible source in Eyo O. Ekpo the SDP Cross River guber candidate in the 2019 general elections has observed that there is no precedent in Nigeria’s judicial history, since 1999 ‘for a House of Assembly or State Governor not doing the needful in the matter of a recommendation by the NJC. So, let us wait and see if negative history will once again be made in Cross River State.’  This position of Ekpo is understood especially remembering the ‘politically-motivated twists and turns that have attended what should have been an unremarkable and routine progression to a well-deserved elevation for this lady are well-known now. It has done no credit at all to Cross River State’, Ekpo observed.

Letter of confirmation according to a source has been sent through the Attorney General to the state today.
Meanwhile, congratulations milord, Justice Akon Ikpeme, on your elevation.
