Politics aside, Rotimi Amaechi has been the best performing cabinet minister of President Buhari since 2015. The railway mini revolution that is gradually intra-linking southern and northern Nigerian cities and also the recent opening of the inner south maritime route for huge cargo vessels to berth in are two highlights of his tenure thus far.
Railway projects were Yaradua/ Jonathan's brainchild no doubt but govt is supposed to be ad continuum. Continuing your predecessor's good works is unNigerian, reason why Amaechi & PMB deserve commendation for this. Under GEJ, I'm not too sure if much was done to liberate the other southern Nigerian ports from the Lagos (& southwest) stranglehold. In 2016, I remember Osinbajo instead of pushing for this, went ahead to commission a dry port(on land) in his native Ogun state. So Amaechi's efforts deserve loads of commendation especially from those of us from the southeast and south south.
Let me also use this opportunity to implore the Cross River state APC strongmen especially waterways boss(NIMASA chairman), Akin Ricketts, to key into this drive before 2023. Lest I forget, they should also lobby for the completion of at least the Calabar-Rivers lot of the Lagos-Calabar railway🚉🚂 before 2023.
