Eki Community Celebrates New Civic Centre as Otu’s Development Agenda Takes Root

Odukpani– The agrarian community of Ibiabong Idim Ndom Eki erupted in celebration recently as Governor Bassey Otu commissioned the newly completed Eki Civic Centre, marking another milestone in the administration’s rural infrastructure drive NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.

The multi-purpose facility, located in Odukpani Local Government Area, attracted a gathering of political office holders, traditional leaders, and excited residents who braved the afternoon sun to witness the historic event.

Community leader Edwin Okon described the project as “a dream decades in the making,” telling our correspondent: “This isn’t just a building – it’s a symbol that our community hasn’t been forgotten. For the first time, the natives will have a proper venue for cultural events and town meetings.”

The ceremony took on emotional tones when Mrs Eyoanwan Otu the wife of the state governor presented empowerment materials to women groups. Market leader Madam Grace Effiong, 62, fought back tears as she said: “We’ve never had this kind of attention from government. Her Excellency’s gifts will help many mothers start small businesses.”

A highpoint of the event was the recognition of six community champions, including retired school principal Chief Emmanuel Okon (82), who received a standing ovation for his decades of educational advocacy.

Observers noted the presence of multiple local government chairmen and political bigwigs , interpreting it as strong support for Governor Otu’s rural development agenda. Calabar Municipal Chairman Hon. James Anam praised the project’s quality, telling journalists: “This is what happens when communities and government work together.”

The 200-seat civic centre features a main hall, conference rooms, and outdoor spaces designed to host cultural events and community programs. Construction began nine months ago as part of the state’s grassroots infrastructure initiative.

As dusk fell, the celebration continued with traditional dances and performances, while community youths expressed hope that the facility would become a hub for skills acquisition programs promised by the state government.

A Vote of Confidence was moved by the entire Ward on the government as well as a declaration of full support in 2027 elections.
