CALABAR– The Cross River State Government’s free tutorial initiative for secondary school students has begun to yield impressive results, with several participants excelling in the just-released 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.
The state-wide educational support program, organized through the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, was introduced as part of Governor Bassey Otu’s education-forward agenda. The initiative was designed to provide free academic coaching, learning materials, and examination preparation support to students in senior secondary school across various Local Government Areas.
According to a statement by Enyam Joseph-Kelvin, Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, several students who participated in the tutorials posted exceptional JAMB scores.
Among the top scorers are:
* Ohiero Paulina Oyigoja – 300
(Best Brain School, Ogba Street, Okuku, Yala LGA)
* Paulinus Blessing Mbey – 253
(Excellent Study Centre, Ediba Secondary School, Calabar)
* Inok David – 250
(Excellent Study Centre, Ediba Secondary School, Calabar)
* Mary Immaculate Enob – 246
(Excellent Study Centre, Ediba Secondary School, Calabar)
* Innocent Ochelebe – 216
(Best Brain School, Ogba Street, Okuku, Yala LGA).
Other high-performing candidates from the tutorial centres were also acknowledged.
Describing the outcomes as “overwhelmingly positive,” Joseph-Kelvin praised the determination of the students and thanked Governor Otu for his unwavering support for youth development through education.
“We sincerely thank His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, for believing in the power of education and for supporting our young people with this life-changing opportunity. The success we are witnessing is a direct result of his commitment to the development of the youth in Cross River State,” he stated.
He added that the state government intends to expand the free tutorial initiative in future academic sessions to reach more students, ensuring inclusiveness in educational access, especially for those from underprivileged backgrounds.
The program, conducted in designated centres across the state, marks a significant stride in the Otu administration’s broader efforts to revamp the education sector and enhance academic performance in Cross River.
