Ogoja, Nigeria –In a show of solidarity and political alignment, all 18 Vice Chairmen across the local government areas of Cross River state have unanimously endorsed Governor Bassey Otu for a second term in office, citing widespread fulfillment of campaign promises and the positive impact of his “People First” governance model NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The endorsement was made during a high-profile event commemorating Governor Otu’s second year in office, held on Thursday in Ogoja. Delivering the joint address, Hon. Princess Christiana Eso, Vice Chairman of Bakassi Local Government and Chairperson of the Forum of Vice Chairmen, declared that “the 18 Vice Chairmen across the state are speaking with one voice and with one message: Your Excellency, we believe in your leadership and we will stand by you for a second term.”
According to the Vice Chairmen, Governor Otu’s administration has restored dignity to local government leadership, revitalized agricultural production, boosted tourism and infrastructure, and maintained strong fiscal discipline with zero borrowing — all within a single year.
“We are witnesses to how governance has returned to the grassroots… how the amended Local Government Law has granted constitutional roles to Vice Chairmen, making Cross River the only state in Nigeria to do so,” Princess Eso noted.
Full Political Machinery Activated for 2027
In what observers have called one of the most proactive move yet toward the 2027 election season, the Vice Chairmen pledged to initiate early grassroots mobilization across the state’s 196 wards. “We shall match our words with action, and we shall ensure that this mandate is renewed,” the Forum Chair affirmed.
They further promised to translate their support into political capital, noting that the renewed commitment to transparency, local autonomy, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance under Governor Otu has earned him the trust of the people.
“We are already mobilizing, not just in the local governments but down to the communities. From town hall meetings to ward-level sensitization, the journey to 2027 has already begun,” one local Vice Chair added during the sidelines of the event.
The endorsement is being interpreted as a signal that the Governor’s political base is solidifying ahead of the next electoral cycle, with many analysts predicting that early grassroots activation could give Otu a decisive edge.
