Community leaders, educators and residents of Ukpada in Utugwang Central, Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River state, have commended Hon. Peter Akpanke, member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for facilitating the construction of a six-classroom block at Ukpada Community Secondary School.

The project was inaugurated on Tuesday during a well-attended ceremony that drew traditional rulers, political office holders, women groups, youths and school authorities from across the area.

Speaking at the event, the Councillor representing Utugwang South Ward, Hon. Michael Abua, described the project as a development initiative that cuts across political affiliations, noting that beneficiaries of the school include children of parents from different political parties.

“This occasion is not exempting any political party. When there is development, it is not for a particular set of people,” Abua said, adding that the turnout despite short notice showed the community’s appreciation of the project.

Former Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Boniface Ewhe Eraye, also lauded the intervention, describing education as a critical foundation for nation-building. He urged the community to maintain the facility to encourage further interventions.

“What has been done here is marvellous. This is where leaders of tomorrow will be nurtured,” Eraye said, while appealing to residents to take ownership of the project.

The APC Chairman in Obudu LGA, Alpha Ublibli, described the classroom block as a lasting contribution to community development, saying investments in education have long-term impact beyond immediate political cycles.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Aviation to the Cross River state governor, Ken Aklah, praised Akpanke’s outreach beyond his immediate locality, noting that development efforts that benefit children strengthen communal bonds and unity.

In his remarks, Akpanke said the project was motivated by his background and belief in education as a tool for social advancement. He thanked the community for its support and pledged to continue intervening in areas that improve the welfare of the people.

“We are not perfect, but with your prayers and support, we will continue to do more,” the lawmaker said.

The Principal of Ukpada Community Secondary School, Mr. Igbaji Jacob Egbo, expressed appreciation on behalf of the school, describing the new classrooms as a significant boost to teaching and learning. He said the only way to reciprocate the gesture was through prayers and proper use of the facility.

The commissioning ceremony ended with the formal opening of the classroom block amid cheers from students and residents, many of whom described the project as a major milestone in the educational development of the community.
