Hon. Justice Eyo E. Ita the Acting Chief Judge, Cross River State and presiding Judge of the Family Court has just convicted 47 years old Mr. Emmanuel Thompson Udo for the rape of his 14 years old half-child NEGROIDHAVEN can say.
Convict Udo who sells (home and school) bags at the popular Watt Market in Calabar the state capital metropolis will have his sentence on January 2021.
Giving further insights, counsel to the minor, James Ibor of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, BRCI, said suspect’s ‘ guilt is completely determined. Sentencing hearing is January 7, 2021. The sentencing hearing is to determine whether he gets maximum sentence of life imprisonment or less but not below the minimum of three years’. It is believed that the 7th January sentencing will not be a slap on the wrist.
Reacting to the development on social media, Okonette Ekanem observed ‘What were his reasons for this kind of nonsense? I am sure if all similar cases were handled this way, no man would be proud abusing children.’ On her part, Davina David-Nyiam said ‘Oh my God. How can this old man rob an innocent girl of her childhood. It shall not be well with him forever.’
