Majority of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Calabar South Chapter in Cross River South Senatorial District have insisted that Comr. Efanga ‘Lasisi’ Efanga Asuquo is the Chapter Chair of the APC in Calabar South NEGROIDHAVEN can report authoritatively.

This position was disclosed on Monday in Calabar the Cross River capital metropolis during a planned street protest organised by the visibly disappointed members of the APC in Calabar South LGA.

According to some of the youth, women, men and critical stakeholders of the said APC chapter, present at the venue of the planned protest, who spoke to the press, the insistence on Efanga ‘Lasisi’ Efanga as chapter chair and his team of chapter EXCO, is born out of the consensus arrived at, on Saturday 4th of September 2021 at Cultural Centre in Calabar by majority of members of the party in Calabar South.

They further disclosed that the protest is against some anonymous elements of the party who rather decided to impose a list of chapter EXCO contrary to the consensus arrived at on Saturday 4th September. They appealed to the Executive Governor of the state, Ben Ayade, to address the turn of events.

According Emmanuel Cobham Esq., mni who spoke for all the men present, ‘When we talk about consensus, we are talking about meeting of the mind… rubbing of the mind, we are talking about the agreement of all parties, and that list that came out was the agreement of all interested persons in Calabar South, that list is a consensus list, and we were at the Cultural Centre on Saturday to ratify that list and bring those people on board, what we did was devoid of the rancour and acrimony that is usually associated with Calabar South. For once we need peace, let peace reign.’

Speaking on behalf of the youths, Comr. Umo Ephraim said ‘On the 4th day of September 2021, a consensus agreement was conducted to affirm the congress that was done; and on that note, we are all gathered to say whatever was done by the critical stakeholders of Calabar South should please stand. Calabar South is always known to be a violent local government area but, we all had a harmonious agreement that, we should sit down in a consensus to deliberate on who and who should be allocated certain offices, on that note Comr Efanga emerged as the chapter chairman; on that note we are pleading that whatever was done on that date 4th September 2021 should stand so that Calabar South APC should have a smooth transition’.

On her part, a lady simply identified as Abe observed that ‘We all agreed that our chapter chairman is Lasisi… nobody should use his power in his office to change that list… We want Lasisi, that’s what we want. We don’t want any other list beginning from Ward 1 to 12’.

Our correspondent witnessed the crowd chanting repeatedly their wish for Effanga Effanga ‘Lasisi’ Asuquo as chapter chair: ‘Who do we want oooo?! Lasisi! For chapter chairman? Lasisi! (in refrain) with variously worded placards reading: ‘The youth of Calabar South youth want Effanga Effanga Asuquo as APC Calabar South Chapter Chair’, ‘Effanga Asuquo is the people’s choice for APC Calabar South’, ‘Stop using the Governor’s name for your selfish interest… APC Calabar South’.
