Popular Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has cautioned against what may be termed the wrong use of social media.

@HenshawKate who expressed herself via a tweet on Tuesday said she does not understand why people go to social media without restriction. According to the star actress, it opens the netizen to ridicule and the like.

Her words, ‘I will never understand why people bring their personal stuff to SM. Like everything… like a drug they are totally addicted to… Is there nothing private anymore?? You become a source of ridicule & entertainment for all Tom, dicks n harry’.

In response, some of her fans gave insights into the trend. @GodwinTanko3 said ‘People seem not to know how to control their hands from typing their lives out on social media. Emotional maturity is rare these days, we suffer from it if we don’t do something about it’. On her part, @beebee974 tweeted: ‘Bringing your personal life on SM is totally wrong cos at the end of the day, people will start insulting you, judging you and be saying all kind of stuff about you. so I think it is better we keep everything PRIVATE!’ @princejunior26 said ‘Everyone want to be a celebrity feeling anything that happens bring it on SM make them famous, that they will be tag and people will see their post’. @i_am_damilare_ noted that ‘They do that to seek Validation. It’s a self esteem issue. Their worth is determined by the number of likes and views. There was a time when people kept diaries and would get upset when others read them. Today, we want to show people who don’t even want to see. It is what it is.’ For @Annieo19134536 it is ‘As in I will like to know o, there was life before social media and even telephone. We should go back to our lovely African way of living and remember that there is dignity in privacy. Ọmọlabakẹ Kate. Fine gey’.
