Disquiet has pervaded the social media space following the consideration of the bill seeking to scrap the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) and transfer its personnel to police.

The bill which has passed through first reading was presented by Shina Peller, the lawmaker representing lseyin/ltesiwaju/Kajola/lwajowa Federal Constituency in Oyo State at the House of Representatives.

While some have lended some form of support to the bill, many others however kicked against it, saying the scrapping of NSCDC could worsen the unemployment situation and increase the rate of crime in the country.

@ShehuSani: “The Bill in the House of Reps proposing the scraping of NSCDC is unnecessary and retrogressive. The Civil Defence as a prime security agency have been playing a distinctive and complementary role in our security system. With due respect, that Bill should be rejected.”

@oga_pharmacist: “I actually believe the NSCDC should be scrapped and its staff absorbed into the Police, the unnecessary duplicity is too much.

They can form a unit in the police, dedicated to tackling a particular problem.”

@HAHayatu: “I support this 100%, in fact NSCDC, FRSC, EFCC should all be as under the Nigeria police headed by equivalent of DIG reporting to IG of police.”

@Austynzogs: “@Gidi_Traffic Hon. Shina Peller moved a motion that the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence be scraped & the Nigerian Police be asked to take over their role. NSCDC authorities wasted no time to bare their fangs against him by immediately withdrawing their personnel attached to him.”

@BgIOnetime: “Don’t lose focus na! Scrap NSCDC bawo? Which work do you want to give them na? Are they not better than the regular policemen that keep harassing young folks? Make we reason am well, pass another bill like scraping NYSC.”

Shina Peller, the lawmaker representing lseyin/ltesiwaju/Kajola/lwajowa Federal Constituency in Oyo State

@BolanleCole: “Shina Peller wants NSCDC scrapped, presents bill to Reps.

Dear Sina Peller: You goofed seriously on this! Hope say no be Hennessy wey you drink yester night dey affect you bro! Oyo people should caution their rep member or else we go close down quilox!”

@emzkid20: “Rather than look at it from the angle of duplication of duty and unreasonable spending by the government. How about looking at the angle of efficiency. Does delegation of responsibilities aids such? If yes, then let the NSCDC be on their own.”

@TORY_GEDAM: “Without the NSCDC, people would be living in fear because it takes time for the police to show up in severe cases.”

@IkuliWisdom: “That Bill is a misplaced priority. It shows the retrogressive Mindset of the Sponsor of the Bill.

It is possible the Sponsor had issue with a Personnel of the Corp which is been generalized.

But let the Sponsor go and sleep. It is dead on Arrival.”

@Garams_jr: “Why are they even thinking of such issues… why not create more job opportunities rather than scrapping…”

Some social media influencers have spited former Anambra State Governor Mr Peter Obi by placing him below Senator Uche Ekwunife in terms of political relevance in the southeast.

Some of the influencers argued that Ekwunife will defeat Peter Obi in any political contest in the region because according to them, the federal legislator has more support base than Obi.

The arguments are captured below:

@TheoAbuAgada: “Peter Obi canโ€™t beat Senator Uche Ekwunife in a free, fair and credible election in the South-East.

This is practical politics and it does not care about your feelings.

Politics is local.”

@DanielRegha: “Peter Obi may or mayn’t beat Sen. Uche Ekwunife in a free & fair election, but when it comes to the presidency, Peter Obi is arguably the most well-known aspirant at the moment; these unnecessary comparisons & pointless arguments aren’t needed right now. Stop dividing the people.”

@kaineneomeli: “I totally disagree with you. Uche will not even win isi shampoo.”

@AfamDelux: “I told you guys that those jobless Abuja image laundering guys & cohorts were going to trend anti-Peter Obi today and it is happening already. It comes off as them trying to be objective. Of course, the idea is to demarket Peter Obi complete. Political vuvuzelas.”

@firstladyship: “Abuja has mobilized their errand boys to demarket Peter Obi, but their agenda is dead on arrival. They need a billion influencers before they can override people of goodwill like us.

Good name is better than Gold

Peterโ€™s PR stays until Election Eve. Hug the nearest transformer.”

@IjeleNnia: “This is one of the silliest hot takes I’ve seen from your gang. Most of you don’t know that Uche Ekwunife is one of the biggest beneficiaries of Peter Obi’s politics.

She went to the House of Reps courtesy of Peter. She’s currently a Senator largely because of Peter Obi.”

@KelechiPhD: “Of course this must be comedy. There are lots of skits going on today, so this must be a comedy skit.

Senator Uche Ekwunife couldn’t defeat Val in 2021.

Peter Obi in 2003 dislodged the PDP in Anambra and Abuja when politics was violently, “do or die”.

Remember this? Of course.”

@MaziLupin: “Same Uche Ekwunife that lost PDP primaries to a first timer Valentine Ozigbo? Come on, Peter Obi will beat her blue and black if she contests against him. The margin will be so wide that we canโ€™t comprehend it. A whole Okwute Ndi Igbo for that matter, who is Uche Ekwunife please?”

@adaigbo_2022: “Peter Obi beat Uche Ekwunife I’m Anambra election when she ran under PPA. So what’s this lie?”

@el_shinkafi: “Uche Ekwunife was there when Peter contested and won twice as Governor. Was there when Peter Obi’s endorsed Obiano won against her but Ekwunife will defeat Peter Obi. We see what y’all are doing. We see it well. Jisie nแปฅ ike.”
