Arguably, majority of those talking about Vice President Yemi Osinbajo being the Chairman of National Economic Council, NEC on social media don’t understand the functions and composition of NEC. They don’t even know the responsibilities of the NEC Chairman.
Well, I implore everybody to Google and read about the Economic Sustainability Plan and the Economic Recovery Growth Plan of the federal government designed by the NEC. IMF commended and rated Nigeria’s Economic Recovery Growth Plan as one of the best in world.
With what is happening in the global economy, people need to understand that the economies of developing countries like ours that depend so much on other nations will suffer. Mexico recently had to suspend gasoline subsidy to stop US drivers from crossing border to buy product from them because of harsh economic conditions.
The economies of the G-7 countries are struggling. Even China’s economy that’s growing unprecedentedly is slowing down according to work bank. Economy don’t grow by magic.
Recently, Ghana Central Bank reduced the country’s policy rate to it lowest in nine years to support their economy recovery plan.
We just need to develop a habit of learning, unlearning and relearning about happenings in the world beyond what we read from a few people we follow on social media in other to contribute meaningfully to serious discourse.
