PRESS STATEMENT BY EYO OKPO-ENE CAMPAIGN ORGANIZATION ON THE PURPORTED CONSENSUS ADOPTION OF A CANDIDATE FROM THE SOUTH FOR THE FORTHCOMING CRS PDP GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARIES BY THE CRS SOUTHERN SENATORIAL DISTRICT ELDERS AND TRADITIONAL RULERS

Attendees at the meeting…

Our campaign organization has been inundated with phone calls over the last few hours by concerned supporters, friends and well wishers, about a statement released to the media, concerning a purported consensus adoption of a candidate from CRS southern senatorial district for the forthcoming PDP gubernatorial primaries, by the CRS southern senatorial elders and traditional rulers.

We will like to state the facts as they are:

1. While our principal, Mr Eyo Okpo-Ene attended a meeting which was hosted by Mr Donald Duke, the former Governor of CRS on Sunday 8th May 2022, it was done in deference to him and the desire to also seek ways of keeping the unity of our brothers and sisters in the southern senatorial district.

2. That when the proposal for a mock election to choose a candidate for the southern senatorial district came up, it was unanimously discounted. In fact, at this point, one of the prominent aspirants walked out of the meeting.

3. Eyo Okpo-Ene did not participate in the mock election, after clearly stating his position that such an election did not have any legal backing and therefore not binding on anyone, since the party was not even represented at the meeting.

4. Most of the elements at the meeting were not members of the PDP and therefore did not in any way represent the interest of the PDP or its numerous supporters.

Consequently, we will like to state that the Eyo Okpo-Ene project for Governor of CRS is fully on course. This project has remained focused on its desire to offer itself to the delegates and true stakeholders of the CRS PDP, who are the sole determinants of who will be its flag bearer at the forthcoming gubernatorial primaries of the PDP.

We have continued to stress for equity, merit, character and competence as pillars on which the next candidate of our great party should be elected. We will therefore like our proud supporters and well wishers to discountenance any insinuations about our withdrawal from the race. This project will go right to the end and win!!!

Long live the PDP!
