A music enthusiast has given insights into why and how Nigerian-born Grammy Award winner, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, MFR popularly called Burna Boy became Afrobeats global sensation NEGROIDHAVEN can report.

Unimke Abana, a Nigerian of Cross River indigenisation but, resident in Lagos has observed that Burna Boy’s international fame soared because he named one of his tracks ‘Ye’ contained in his 2018 album tagged, ‘Outside’.

From the insights below, you can see the spike in searches for “Ye” in America happening before August. While it was high in Nigeria around August. Kanye released ‘Ye’ in July. Burna released “Ye” in August.

His words, ‘This is why Burna Boy blew internationally. Americans and Europeans were searching for “Ye”, the album from Kanye West, and some of these searchers stumbled upon Burna Boy’s track “Ye”.

‘The track has some good vibes to it and guess what, they liked it. Americans went to his channels and started listening to his other songs. You can go to his YouTube channel and run some data analysis. Nigeria wasn’t vibing to Burna until he was accepted internationally.’

‘Burna was just a regular artiste like Fireboy until “Ye”. That was when he moved from D level artiste to A level artiste.’
