Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has assured residents of the Calabar Metropolis that the State Government under the leadership of Sen. Bassey Edet Otu, is poised to tackle headlong the menace of flooding bedeviling the city NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.
Ayambem who gave the assurance, Tuesday, on the floor of the Assembly, after motion sponsored by Hon. Cyril James Omini, member representing Yakurr 1 State constituency called on the State Government through the Ministry of Environment and waste management agency to urgently de-silt all drainage systems in Calabar Metropolis.
Recall that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), had announced that this year’s flood might be worse than 2022, with Cross River included among the affected states.
Arising from the forecast by relevant agencies on the impending flood danger and damages that it may cause the State, the 10th Assembly under Speaker Ayambem has swiftly swung into action to avert future flood disasters.
Ayambem stressed that the State Government will always be a step ahead in tackling adverse weather effect and the danger it poses on the state.
He also said that government is aware of its responsibility to evolve strategic methods that will improve the environment and guarantee a flood-free Cross River for all.
