The Director, University of Calabar Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (UNICAL-JUPEB), Dr. Paschal Nyiam has told candidates seeking admission into the University of Calabar and it affiliate universities that UNICAL-JUPEB is a credible alternative access to direct entry admission.
Dr. Paschal Nyiam disclosed this in his office while fielding questions from journalists on why candidates seeking admission into the University should take advantage of the establishment of UNICAL-JUPEB in the Institution.
He said the UNICAL-JUPEB is an advance level programme that leads to the award of a JUPEB certificate which enables candidates gain direct entry admission into second year at the University of Calabar and other JUPEB -affiliated Universities in Nigeria.
According to him, since 2017 many students have gained direct entry admission into various departments and faculties through UNICAL-JUPEB stressing that candidates should take advantage of the opportunity before them, which is, to gain direct entry admission without having to write JAMB and Post UTME.
He said “take the leap towards your dreams today. Are there candidates seeking for admission? Are they considering options for a successful academic journey in Nigeria? I beg to say that they should look no further than UNICAL-JUPEB.”
The erudite Director urged candidates to choose UNICAL-JUPEB as their hope of getting past the challenge of gaining admission into the University, noting that, with the nine months Federal Government approved programme and Jamb recognising the A’ level admission programme in Nigeria, candidates who gain direct entry admission into UNICAL through UNICAL-JUPEB can only but achieve their dream course of study.
This is even as he said candidates who enroll and complete the 9 months UNICAL-JUPEB programme, can be admitted into any of the juicy courses available in the College of Medical Sciences, Faculties of Law, Engineering, Management Sciences, Social Sciences. Others are; Faculties of Arts/Humanities, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Education of their choice.
Dr. Nyiam who also informed that application for the 2023/2024 UNICAL-JUPEB programme is currently ongoing, stated that, applicants must possess a minimum of 5 O’level credits at not more than two sittings inclusive of English language and subjects relevant to the candidates desired course of study in the University.

Testifying about the good prospects of the programme, Mr. Diai Chukwudumebi Julian, a 300 level student who spoke to our correspondent said of JUPEB; “I found the programme, an interesting one year foundation. Truly, it was an unforgettable experience.
“I came out successfully and currently, I have been given admission into 200 level to study Dentistry. All my doubts have been put to rest, as I’m now a proud student of the University of Calabar”.
Another student name, Miss Ubana Mina Rosemary who also benefitted from the programme said she chose UNICAL-JUPEB as a path and opportunity to study medicine because it not only provides an enriching learning experience but also allows her to improve educationally.
Speaking also, another student name Ukpong Maria Okon said choosing to study at UNICAL-JUPEB was one of her best decisions she has ever made stressing that the programme content guided and sharpened her communication skills and that she was admitted into her dream course.
