In a momentous display of leadership and determination, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, the Obong of Calabar, has achieved a historic reconciliation of the Efik community in the United States of America, putting an end to over a decade of bitter factionalism NEGROIDHAVEN can report.
The monumental occasion took place during a joint convention held in Houston, Texas, on July 20th, 2023, where the Efik National Association, Inc. USA (ENA) and The Efik National Association USA, Inc (EFIK, USA) came together in celebration and unity. The atmosphere was filled with immense joy and gratitude as esteemed members of the Efik Eburutu Kingdom came together to mark this long-awaited reconciliation.
For many years, the Efik community in America had been divided, causing unfortunate repercussions for their cherished children. Despite previous attempts at reconciliation, the path to unity proved challenging. However, through the unwavering dedication and commitment of His Eminence, the Efik community in America has finally found a common ground.
The Obong of Calabar’s fatherly advice and persuasion, coupled with the efforts of his palace, paved the way for this groundbreaking joint convention. His exemplary leadership and vision have initiated a new era of collaboration, harmony, and mutual understanding, ensuring a stronger and more united Efik community in America.
The Obong’s tireless efforts to unite ‘Esien Efik Duopeba’ have earned admiration and appreciation from Efiks worldwide. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Presidents of both associations for their tireless efforts in making the joint convention a reality.
In his goodwill message, His Eminence called on all Efiks to embrace the convention as a testament to their resilience and spirit. He urged them to celebrate their shared heritage, honour their ancestors, and lay a solid foundation for future generations of Efiks in America. Despite some opposition in Nigeria regarding the unification of the Efik Eburutu Kingdom, the Obong remains optimistic that their unity, love, mutual respect, and timeless cultural values will eventually triumph.
