Bakassi Chairman, Vice Chairman Sworn into Office Amid Calls for Accountability, Service

Effiong Okon and Christiana Eso have been formally inaugurated as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area on Monday. The swearing-in, held at the Governor’s temporary office at Dan Archibong Lodge in Calabar, attracted dignitaries, government officials, community leaders, and enthusiastic residents eager to witness the dawn of a new administration NEGROIDHAVEN has confirmed.

The oath of office was administered by Senator Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River state, who emphasised the importance of integrity, dedication, and community-oriented service. In his remarks, Governor Otu highlighted that the newly elected leaders’ victory was not a mere ceremonial honor but a responsibility to actively improve socioeconomic conditions, foster investment, build local GDP, and uplift living standards at the grassroots.

Following the ceremony, Governor Otu addressed all 18 newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen from various local government areas, calling for transparency, accountability, and a “People First” governance approach. He urged them to be steadfast in their service, emphasizing that their roles were critical to Cross River’s growth and development.

In a subsequent reception organized in his honor, Effiong Okon expressed gratitude to the people of Bakassi for their support and pledged his administration’s dedication to community advancement. Okon outlined priorities that included restoring power supply, enhancing local security, improving infrastructure, engaging youth, and boosting social welfare programs across Bakassi. “Today marks a milestone in our collective journey to reinforce democracy in Bakassi LGA. Together, we will work toward sustainable development, peace, and unity,” he declared.

Political and community leaders present at the event commended Okon’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges facing Bakassi, including unemployment and inadequate public services. The ceremony concluded with cultural performances celebrating the heritage of Bakassi, symbolizing the community’s resilience and collective hope for a brighter future under the new administration.
