The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) is set to make history as it hosts its maiden international conference on the “Science of Communication and the Communication of Science,” beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the New Mass Communication Block on the university’s main campus Calabar.

The two-day conference, which will run through Thursday, May 15, 2025, is being organized by the Department of Mass Communication and is expected to attract academics, media professionals, researchers, and science communicators from across Nigeria and beyond.

Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Dr. Emmanuel Inyang, described the event as a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bridging the gap between science and society through effective communication. According to him, the conference will explore emerging trends, research findings, and best practices in the fields of science communication, media engagement, and public understanding of science.

“The conference provides a unique platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on how communication can enhance scientific literacy, influence policy, and drive development,” Dr. Inyang stated.

The opening ceremony will be graced by the Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Dr. Stephen, who is expected to serve as the Guest of Honour, while the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, will deliver the keynote address, setting the tone for insightful discourse over the two days.

With a blend of academic sessions, keynote presentations, and panel discussions, the conference promises to offer fresh perspectives on how science is communicated in an age of information overload and technological advancement.
