Members of the 10th National Assembly from Cross River state have unanimously endorsed Governor Bassey Edet Otu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement came on the sidelines of the governor’s two-year anniversary town hall meeting held on Thursday at the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC) NEGROIDHAVEN can say.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Senator Eteng Jones Williams, who represents Cross River Central and serves as the leader of the Cross River caucus in the National Assembly, said the lawmakers had evaluated the performance of the Otu-led administration and found it deserving of continued mandate.

“This is the endorsement of all endorsements,” Senator Eteng declared. “We have gone round, we’ve seen the projects, we’ve seen the impact, and we have returned with a unanimous report: Governor Bassey Otu deserves another term. His administration has touched every local government, and even in my own village, the projects are evident.”

Highlighting the achievements of the governor over the past two years, the senator cited improved security through Operation Okwók, revitalization of long-abandoned infrastructure such as the State Library and Local Government Service Commission building, and major urban renewal projects across the state.

He commended the administration’s inclusive governance approach and noted that the governor’s focus on people-first service delivery had restored hope and dignity to Cross Riverians.

The NASS delegation also used the opportunity to throw their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, citing landmark initiatives like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the student loan program, and reforms in the oil and gas sector.

“For us at the National Assembly, what Mr. President is doing is bold and transformative. We endorse him as our sole candidate for the APC come 2027. And for Cross River, we are saying the same for Governor Otu and his deputy. They have earned our trust and deserve our full support for continuity,” Senator Eteng added.

The event was attended by top government officials, political stakeholders, civil society groups, and members of the public. It formed part of the activities marking the governor’s second year in office under the “People First” mantra, which has guided his administration’s policy and development trajectory.

With this ringing endorsement from federal lawmakers, the political momentum for a second term bid by Governor Otu appears to be gathering strength, even as the 2027 election season gradually looms on the horizon.
