CALABAR – The Managing Director of the Cross River Basin Development Authority, Mrs. Glory Ekpo-Oho, has described CRBDA Secondary School, Calabar, as one of the best-performing secondary schools in Nigeria, attributing its reputation to sustained academic excellence and quality teaching NEGROIDHAVEN has learnt.
Ekpo-Oho stated this on Tuesday at the 2026 Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony of the school, where she congratulated 57 graduating students and expressed confidence in their ability to excel in higher institutions and contribute meaningfully to national development.
She said the institution had consistently maintained high academic standards since its establishment, noting that its outstanding performance was evident in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, where one of its female students emerged among the country’s top scorers.
The CRBDA Managing Director commended the school’s management, principal and academic staff for their commitment to quality education, urging them to sustain the culture of excellence that has distinguished the institution.
She also challenged the graduating students to remain focused on their academic pursuits and prepare themselves to become professionals who would contribute to Nigeria’s growth and development.
According to her, the graduands represent the nation’s future engineers, doctors, architects and other professionals whose knowledge and skills would shape the country’s future.
Chairman of the occasion, Princess Maria Oben, urged the graduating students to uphold the virtues of integrity, diligence and the fear of God as they progress to higher levels of education.
She advised them to protect the reputation of their families and alma mater by avoiding negative influences, while commending parents and teachers for their sacrifices in raising disciplined and responsible young people.
In an address delivered on behalf of the Principal, Lady Florence Odok, the Vice Principal, Mrs. Itoro Williams, described the event as a celebration of the school’s 12 years of academic excellence and the unveiling of its maiden yearbook.
She explained that the school, established in 2014 as an extension of the authority’s nursery and primary school, had evolved into a centre of excellence through sustained investment in quality infrastructure, discipline and academic development.
Williams paid tribute to the pioneer consultant of the schools, Lady Josephine U. Ogar, for laying the institution’s foundation, and praised the current education consultant, Mrs. Glory Ntuk, for maintaining high academic standards and quality assurance.
She also acknowledged the dedication of members of staff and the support of parents, describing their partnership as critical to the school’s achievements over the years.
Highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling and launch of the maiden CRBDA Secondary School Yearbook, initiated and supervised by the education consultant, Mrs. Glory Ntuk, with Mrs. Mbereobong Blessing Sammy serving as editor.
The event also featured a valedictory speech by Master Ekong Benedict Moses on behalf of the graduating class and the presentation of awards to outstanding students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff for excellence.
Top officials of the Cross River Basin Development Authority, members of the Parents-Teachers Association, parents and other invited guests attended the ceremony.
